Born in Toronto in 1922 to West Indian immigrants, Lincoln M. Alexander served with the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II. Educated at McMaster University and Osgoode Hall, he was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1965. In 1968 Mr. Alexander became the first Black Member of Parliament in Canada. He was Federal Minister of Labour in 1979, and served in the House of Commons until 1985. Upon his appointment in 1985, Mr Alexander was the first member of the black community to serve as a Lieutenant Governor in Canada. He held this post until 1991 and made youth and education key areas of his mandate. After leaving office, Mr Alexander went on to serve as Chancellor of the University of Guelph. In 1992 he was appointed a Companion in the Order of Canada, and was also appointed to the Order of Ontario.

Lincoln Alexander is Honorary President of The Warriors' Day Parade Council.
